MOISTURE/MOLD/ MAKEOVER
COVID CAPERS
In spite of the pandemic, The Build Team continued helping homeowners and other charities. Our effectiveness was somewhat hampered following COVID protocols and maybe we took a few more chances than we should have but in early 2020 we began another basement renovation for WINGS. The space had been badly damaged by flooding (moisture is an understatement) due to a boiler failure—mold was everywhere. Following mold mitigation, we discovered more water was seeping through the foundation walls. We supervised repairs and then began turning the space into a safe, comfortable play area for the WINGS residents.
WHAT OUR VOLUNTEERS ACCOMPLISHED
Using steel studs we built new outer walls over the cracked foundation now covered with a waterproof membrane. Old fluorescent ceiling fixtures were replaced with LED recessed cans. Walls, posts, and ceiling beams were covered with drywall and a fresh coat of paint. New flooring, baseboards, and base shoe gave the basement its final finish awaiting fun playtime for the next WINGS guests.
