SQUIRRELS EVICTED
HOME DEEMED UNINHABITABLE BY CITY
During the husband's prolonged period of illness and disability, the home became exposed to the ravages of weather. Soffits were rotting out and squirrels moved in causing further damage. A large tree branch fell and damaged the roof. The photos reveal just how compromised the home became. Shortly following the husband's death, the town was forced to condemn the structure and consider evicting the widow. The town recognized the hardship that created for her and came to The Build Team for help.
WHAT OUR VOLUNTEERS ACCOMPLISHED
We first had to close the home to weather. We rebuilt a section of the roof, repaired the soffits and facias, and caulked leaking window frames. Demolition was required for a handicapped access ramp with minor repairs to the door and porch where it was installed. Our work then moved inside for a complete renovation of the interior room damaged as a result of the roof leaks—floor ceiling, walls, and shelving. Efforts closed with repainting the master bedroom. The town was satisfied that the home was then safe for occupancy.
