DESERVING COUPLE

HUSBAND WITH CANCER, WIFE WORKS TWO JOBS

The couple was financially devastated as a result of the husband's illness, they had to move to a small cottage that didn't have hot water or a working bathroom—for seven months! We took care of the immediate needs by providing hot water and a new bathroom. A short time later we approved a complete renovation of the 3-room cottage.

Our work was substantially done by volunteers who committed 490 hours to help this very deserving couple. While we were working on the home, the husband received the organ donation and the surgery he needed....he was able to return from the hospital to his "new" home.

WHAT OUR VOLUNTEERS ACCOMPLISHED

Complete rewiring of the entire home by licensed electricians
The walls and ceilings were taken back to studs, insulated, drywalled, and painted.
Window casings and baseboards were installed.
New interior framing to provide laundry and closet space, and to divide the kitchen and living space.
The kitchen was completely redone with cabinets, countertops, sink, stove, and refrigerator.
New floors were installed in the kitchen and living room, carpeting installed in the remaining two rooms.
Plumbing in the kitchen and in the laundry room which we equipped with a washer and dryer.
Heating vents were cleaned, cold air returns reestablished, and the existing furnace serviced.
